Onze Seppala Honden - Our Seppala Dogs

Alaskan’s White Fox of Anadyr - “Spot”

Spot was a pure Seppala on his dam's side and half Seppala on his sire's side. His grandsire, Shango of Seppala, a very famous dog in the history of the breed.

Spot had all the assets of the Seppala strain: beautiful plush coat, typical head, lovely temperament, solid hard worker and had good Anadyr conformation. We got a lot of Seppala qualities in the litter we bred from him, retaining the Anadyr conformation and high strung drive we were always after. We were very happy with that.

Daar waren we erg blij mee.

By “our Seppala dogs” I am referring to those dogs which were directly descended, genetically, from the McFaul Seppala line. Earl Norris bought that kennel when it closed in the early 1960’s.

Watching a musher from Whitehorse/Canada unload a string of loaned dogs I ask : “What are you going to do with these dogs Earl?”

Earl Norris: “Sell them all, they will not make our first string.”

“Which dog is that? What is his breeding?” I ask further.

“That's Spook, half Seppala/McFaul. Sire Bilkoff, Nicolai II’s littermate, and his Dam Erotica of Seppala.”

“OK, then Spook is sold  Earl. I will buy him!” and then uproar!

“He is not for sale Els, you said you did not come for shopping...”

Natalie Norris had to step in to get the sale fixed!

Spook was – especially genetically – a golden purchase. His Seppala face, beautiful plush-coat, wonderful temperament and good solid work ethic. Not quite the speed of our best dogs in the team, but then we hardly needed that speed on the European racetrails. His genetic background was perfect, a complete outcross with Bilkoff as his Sire and Erotica of Seppala as his Dam. Right away we bred him with our Ch. Vanessa of Kolyma, but we also offered him safely for stud outside of our kennel, as there were no risks of too close line- or inbreeding and/or too many relations with the same background.

Besides a diversity of size and type in his offspring, he passed on great vitality and energy. At the race we often heard shouts : “Look Els, our Spook pup running lead takes the whole team in tow.” Many complete little Spook-teams were running around. When we closed our Kennel we let Spook go to Ernst Müller (CH- Klondike Kennels), as Ernst got many requests for stud-fees, and with Spook he could answer that demand without any risk. Spook passed on his dynamic energy and extremely enthusiastic workability in harnass to all his offspring and that made him an extremely important dog for the breed.

Half Seppala/McFaul. Vader is Bilkoff, Nicolai II’s nestbroer.”
