Onze Kolyma Honden - Our Kolyma Dogs : Ons U-Nest - Our U-Litter

We gebruikten Ch. Alaskan’s Babiche of Anadyr voor Ch. Alaskan’s Sascha of Anadyr (Blackey) om de goede temperament en werkeigenschappen - en hun showmanship - die zij beiden hadden te consolideren. Beide honden waren lange tijd een vaste en solide factor in onze teams, dol op dogshows. Alles wat ik te doen had was hen aan de andere kant van de lijn vasthouden. Nooit hoefde ik ze in de “showpositie” te zetten zoals je zo vaak ziet. “de keurmeester kijkt… let even op...” en hop, ze stonden perfect in positie. Hun beweging deed de rest want - zoals alle Anadyrhonden - combineerden beiden een uitstekende schouderligging met lengte in rug (rangyness) een goede achterhand. Zoals verwacht waren de temperamenten van alle pups sound. Alle honden zwart/wit met bruine ogen en allen bewezen goede harde werkers te zijn in harnas.

De HD +/- deed ons besluiten deze combinatie niet te herhalen, maar we herhaalden zelden eenzelfde combinatie. We waren van mening dat een te kleine genetische basis in het ras voorkomen moest worden. Een probleem wat in die jaren reeds bestond. Url en Unik gingen naar Noorwegen. Karsten fokte Unik een keer met Trail Blazer of Kolyma.

We crossed Ch. Alaskan’s Babiche of Anadyr with Ch. Alaskan’s Sascha of Anadyr (Blackey) to consolidate the temperaments and workability they both displayed, as well as their showmanship. Both loved dog shows and all I had to do was to hold their leash - both dogs did the rest themselves. I never had to put them in the “show position,” as you see happen so often. As soon as I whispered to them “Judge is watching…” they put themselves into position! Otherwise, their movement did the rest - as with all Anadyr dogs - they combined excellent shoulder-angulation with ranginess (length in back) and rear-angulation. As expected the temperaments of their pups were also sound. All dogs were black/white and had brown eyes, and all proved to be good, hard workers.

The HD +/- results made us decide not repeat this breeding combination, but then we hardly ever repeated any combination. We felt that in doing so you got too many of the same genes in the breed. A problem which existed already - and still does - in many breeds with too small a genetic pool to choose from. Url and Unik eventually went to Norway, and Karsten Gronnas bred Unik once, as far as I know, to Trail Blazer of Kolyma.
