Onze Kolyma Honden - Our Kolyma Dogs : Ons P-Nest - Our P-Litter

Blackey heb ik makkelijk kampioen geshowed - ze werd Best in Show op de Kampioensclubmatch en hier kijken we wat verrast naar de bekers - en was een vreugde om mee naar de shows te nemen. (Meer informatie over haar vind je onder Onze Anadyr Honden en haar U en W nest).

Ze was een goed evenredig gebouwde hond, ik had haar misschien iets hoger in schouderhoogte willen zien, maar goed binnen de standaard van het ras en stond haar mannetje in onze teams. Zwarter dan Blacky kwam je Siberians niet vaak tegen terwijl ze vaak gewoon in de zon lag te bakken. Bij bijna 30 Celsius maakte ik me daar een keer bar zorgen over maar toen ik mijn vingers tot op haar huid liet komen, was die heerlijk koel. Vachtisolatie werkt dus twee kanten op: zowel kou als warmte.

Het nest met Yaddam was een complete onverwante paring en dat had een verrassend kleurrijk effect in hun pups. Pjotr was een rode pinto met groene ogen. Nu was onze Red (Alaskan’s Sha Luk King of Anadyr) Blackeys volle broer en zo rood als je maar kon tegenkomen, dus die genen had Blackey ook bij zich. En dominant dus, want in Yaddams stamboom kon ik geen rode honden terug vinden.

Alleen Peter Pan groeide uit tot degelijke sleehond in een B team in Denemarken. Papka is plotseling in onze kennel overleden - opnieuw kwam er niets leerzaams uit de autopsie - en de drie anderen zijn goede - en gehoorzame! - huishonden geworden. Twee waren dol op hun rugzakjes die ze droegen als ze mee de Alpen in gingen.

I showed Blackey to her Championship title and she became Best in Show at the Champions Club - the photo above shows us both looking somewhat surprised at the trophies - and she was a true joy to take to dog shows. She was good and well proportioned in build, although I would have liked her maybe a little higher at the shoulder, but she was well within the standard of the breed and held her ground in our teams. Blacker then Blackey you will hardly find in the breed. Often she would just lie outstretched, baking in the sun, and one time (at 30 Celsius) I got worried about it, but putting my fingers on her skin it was wonderfully cool. Coat isolation works two ways I discovered, against cold as well as heat.

The litter with Yaddam was a complete out-cross and had a surprisingly colourful effect in the offspring. Pjotr was a red pinto with green eyes. Now our Red (Alaskan’s Sha Luk King of Anadyr) was Blackey’s full brother and as red as they came, so she carried the genes for that colour, and dominant genes, as there was no red dog to be found in Yaddam’s pedigree.

Only Peter Pan grew into a solid hardworking sled-dog in a B-team in Denmark. Papka died suddenly in our kennel, and again, no useful information came out off the autopsy. The three other dogs grew into fine and obedient house pets. Two of them loved their backpacks when taken on big mountain trips in the Alps!
